About This Role
City Journal — the Manhattan Institute's flagship publication — is building a new investigative team focused on misgovernance and public accountability in California. We are seeking a seasoned investigative reporter to join this effort.
Responsibilities:
- Report and write long-form investigative pieces on government waste, fraud, and mismanagement in California
- Develop and cultivate sources across state and local government, law enforcement, and advocacy communities
- Work closely with editors to shape stories from tip to publication
- Contribute to City Journal's digital and print platforms
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of investigative or accountability journalism experience
- Track record of breaking news and producing impactful investigative work
- California knowledge and sourcing strongly preferred
- Commitment to rigorous, fair, and factual journalism
